RESIDENTS in the township of Tabubil, Western Province, are cowering 
in “horror and fear” after a week-old baby was eaten alive in front of a
 shell-shocked crowd, allegedly by the father. And the shocking act 
allegedly continued minutes later at Tabubil police station last 
Thursday in front of curious onlookers, including policemen and the

Army Foils Terrorist Plot To Cause Havoc In Maiduguri

 Defence Headquarters on Thursday said that a plot by the terrorist 
group, Boko Haram, to use two female suicide bombers to cause havoc in 
Maiduguri was foiled by troops, who successfully dislodged the 
terrorists.</em></strong><br />
Security sources revealed that two female suicide bombers detonated bombs, ahead of their attack on Ladi Kayamla
 near Maiduguri the Borno State capital, on Wednesday, with a plan to 
follow up with an attack but were swiftly routed by the Nigerian Army in
 the area.<br />

The military added that the attack, which was apparently diversionary
 with the intention of slowing down the ongoing assault on Sambisa 
forest, was believed to have been carried out by terrorists escaping 
from their destroyed camp.<br />

However, the Director, Defence Information, Major General Chris 
Olukolade, who confirmed the incident reassured that normalcy had been 
restored, adding that the army have conducted mop up operation of the 
area.<br />

Members of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, had launched an attack on Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, northeast Nigeria.<br />

Our correspondent in Maiduguri, Blessing Tunor, confirmed that there 
were heavy gunshots, adding that residents in the state scampered to 
their homes when they got wind of the attack, while those living close 
to Giwa Barracks ran in different directions to avoid being caught in 
the crossfire.<br />

The Boko haram militants have suffered losses in recent times, 
following a fresh onslaught by the Nigerian military, leading to the 
recapture of territories formerly controlled by the insurgents and the 
rescue of over a thousand people held in captivity in various locations 
in the northeast, many of them women and children.<br />

Only recently, the military announced that it had raided Sambisa 
Forest, believed to be the last stronghold of the terrorists, and 
rescued numerous women and children as well.<br />

Residents living in the compound with the victims – the Araf family, 
said that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, shortly 
after power supply was restored to the area following an outage the 
night before the incident.<br />

Channels Television gathered that the fire started from an electric 
surge which aided the explosion of a gas cylinder in the house, as the 
victims were held captive due to the fortified security barricade in the
 house which has only one entrance.<br />

All occupants of the two bedroom apartment were burnt beyond 
recognition before men of the Fire Brigade Service and residents could 
render any assistance or extend any help to save them.<br />

The victims all died while the husband was away on official duty.<br />

In line with Muslim tradition, the victims were taken to the mortuary
 immediately where prayers were offered for the repose of the departed 
souls and subsequent interment at the cemetery amidst tears.<br />

The Plateau incident brings to fore, the need for citizens to take 
certain measures in providing security apparatus that will enhance 
access to buildings while emergency exits should be provided in curbing 
occurrences of such incidents.<br />

The latest hostages were rescued on Thursday through the Kawuri and Konduga end of the Sambisa Forest.<br />

This follows an announcement by the Nigerian Army on Thursday, which confirmed the rescue of more women and children from Sambisa Forest.<br />

The previous announcement was made via  the Nigerian Army Twitter handle.<br />

Barely 48 hours earlier, some 200 girls and 93 women held hostage in 
Sambisa forest by members of the Boko Haram terrorists group had been rescued by Nigerian troops.<br />

The rescued females were confirmed to be indigenes of Bumsiri Village of Damboa Local Government in Borno State, dousing hopes that some of them could be the Chibok girls abducted on April 14, 2014.<br />

Expectation are high that the girls would be among those rescued by 
the military as the Director of Defence Information, Major-General Chris
 Olukolade, had said that all hope was not lost
 in the search and rescue of hostages held in the Sambisa forest by Boko
 Haram insurgents as the counter terrorism operation continues.<br />

his powers to ensure that all Nigerian territory still held by 
terrorists and insurgents are totally liberated before May 29, 2015.</b></i><br />
Receiving a delegation of Heads of Customs from the West and Central 
African Region of the World Customs Organisation led by the 
Secretary-General of the organisation, Mr. Kunio Mikuriya, President 
Jonathan said that he was determined to hand over a country completely 
free of terrorist strongholds to the President-elect, General Muhammadu 
Buhari.<br />

The President said that ongoing military operations in the North-East
 had already recorded huge successes, with two states completely free 
from the control of terrorists, while operations in the third state had 
reached a concluding stage.<br />

“We can now say two states are completely free from terrorist 
control, while in the third state, it is only in one Local Government 
Area that they are still present. That is in the Sambisa Forest,” he 
said.<br />

President Jonathan noted that the military had already moved into the
 forest to seize the remaining camps of the terrorists, adding that the 
recent rescue of about 300 abducted girls and women was further evidence
 of the success being achieved in the ongoing operation.<br />

On his decision to concede victory to the President-elect, General 
Muhammadu Buhari, before all the results of the presidential elections 
were announced, President Jonathan said that elections must be 
approached from a nationalistic point of view.<br />

“Our elections should be about where Nigeria is going. If Nigeria is 
moving forward, it is for the good of all Nigerians. My children and 
grandchildren will live and grow in this country and contribute to it.<br />

“I always tell my colleagues to leave office when their time is up. 
We are trying to encourage African leaders not to remain in power as 
kings until death,” he said.<br />

Mr. Mikuriya commended the President for supporting the reform of the
 Nigeria Customs Service, noting that other African countries had 
already started emulating the vision, strategy, adoption to new 
technology and result- oriented training of officers that were captured

Coordinating Minister and Minister of Finance, Paul Nwabuikwu, dated 
Thursday, April 30, 2015.

The Ministry explained that the payment was in line with the Federal 
Government’s commitment to prioritise payment to marketers in spite of 
revenue constraints.<br />

The statement reads; “The payment has two components. The first 
consists of the cash backing of the N100 billion IOU which the marketers
 were given in March. The second is N56 billion in interest payments for
 the marketers according to the PPPRA template.<br />

“This leaves a balance of N98 billion certified by PPPRA as the amount owed the markers.<br />

“The N156 billion is the latest in a series of significant payments 
made to the oil marketers within the last five months. These include 
over N300 billion in two installments in December last year and N31 
billion in interest differentials recently. In all, oil marketers have 
received over N500 billion within the past five months.”<br />

“For the sake of Nigerians who are bearing the brunt of fuel 
scarcity, the marketers should reciprocate in the spirit of dialogue and

South Africa Distances Self From Reaction To Nigerian Envoy Recall

<em><strong>South
 African government has distanced itself from the statement made by the 
spokesman of the Department of International Relations And Cooperation 
(DIRCO), Clayson Monyela, on the recall of Nigeria’s envoy over 
xenophobic attacks.</strong></em><br />
Briefing the media along with other members of the Inter-ministerial 
Task Team on Tuesday, the Minister in the Presidency, Jeff Radebe, said 
the statement was not the official position of the South African 
government and that South Africa maintains a cordial relationship with 
Nigeria.<br />

“I will reiterate our position, we still have cordial relations with 
all the members of the African Union… very cordial relations with the 
Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Radebe said.<br />

<strong>Unfortunate And Regrettable</strong><br />

Monyela had released a statement criticising Nigeria’s decision to 
recall its High Commissioner to South Africa for discussions about the 
xenophobic attacks and impact on Nigerians in the nation.<br />

“It is unfortunate and regrettable that a sister country like Nigeria
 would take such an action even when it is clear that the government of 
South Africa is taking steps to stop the attacks on sovereign 
nationals,” Monyela said on Sunday.<br />

The statement revealed that the Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, 
had just returned from Indonesia to attend the Africa-Asia Summit and 
the 60th Anniversary of the historic Bandung Conference and the Nigerian
 delegation present at that gathering did not express an intention “to 
formally raise the issue” with the South African side.<br />

It, however, stated that “South Africa would remain committed to a 
strong bond of friendship and bilateral relations with Nigeria”.<br />

Xenophobic attacks that started on March 20 after a Zulu king, 
Goodwill Zwelithini, made a statement against foreigners working in 
South Africa.<br />

He said he was taken out of context.<br />

After several deaths were reported, Nigerian lawmakers advised the presidency recall  the envoy for briefing.<br />

 Security Consultant, Colonel Hassan Stan-Labo (rtd), has praised the 
Nigerian troops for the rescue of some Boko Haram captives from the 
terrorists in Sambisa forest on Tuesday.</strong></em><br />
He said he was quite elated with the news about the liberation of 200 girls and 93 women in Boko Haram’s captivity, and commended the government for their support.<br />

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, during a daily 
breakfast show, Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Colonel Stan-Labo said it is
 a welcome development to all.<br />

He noted that the military should be given break to sort out the 
rescued Boko Haram victims, in order to know the number of Chibok girls 
among them.<br />

The security expert further said Nigerians should recall that it was 
not only the Chibok girls that were held captive, adding that the girls 
for now, serve as the picture of all captives of the terrorist group.<br />

When asked if the insurgents would ever come to an end, he said “it will, but not at the pace we would want this to end.<br />

“Every Nigerian is anxious including those of us in the military, or 
with some military background are anxious to see this coming to an end.<br />

“The reality is that when you are into an asymmetry battle, the end 
never comes too quick as you would want to have,” Colonel Stan-Labo 
said.<br />

He however, said the war against the Boko Haram insurgency is not a 
conventional war where a diplomatic relationship is established, noting 
that the adversary does not play by the rules.<br />

200 Girls, 93 Women Rescued From Terrorists In Sambisa Forest

 Boko Haram terrorists group have been rescued by Nigerian troops.</strong></em><br />
In its Twitter handle, the Defence Headquarters said it could not 
confirm if the Chibok girls abducted by the terrorists group on April 
2014 were among the rescued.<br />

“Troops captured and destroyed three terrorists’ camps, including the
 notorious Tokumbere Camp in the Sambisa Forest Operation,” another 
tweet read.<br />

According to the tweet, the freed persons are now been profiled and details would be released later.<br />

Defence spokesperson, Major General Chris olukolade, further confirmed the information in a phone conversation.<br />

“When we are through with the screening, we can say categorically what their background is.<br />

“The operation is to clear the entire forest and all the hideouts of terrorists.<br />

“The troops have been advancing to the forest from different angles. 
 Three camps have been cleared and in the process these children and 
women were rescued,” he said.<br />

According to the military spokesman, the troops have been doing everything to either scale obstacles in the path or remove them.<br />

He stressed that the entire mission was concentrating on the whole 
forest, to clear all terrorists’ camps and that it would continue.<br />

“It is not yet over until all the identified terrorists camps in that
 forest are cleared. So far we have taken out only three,” the military 
spokesman stated.<br />

He further clarified the involvement of foreign troops in the 
counter-terrorism operation, saying: “The involvement of the foreign 
troops is to watch their own side of the border to ensure that the 
terrorists do not run into their countries unnoticed”.<br />

 convener of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign group, Obiageli 
Ezekwesili, says the news of the rescue of some 200 girls and 93 women 
by Nigerian troops from the Boko Haram terrorists’ camps in Sambisa 
Forest brought hope.</strong></em><br />
In a phone conversation with Channels Television on Tuesday, Mrs 
Ezekwesili said: “It is a great news at this particular time. We are 
hopeful that his news will be for real and that the Chibok girls will be
 among those rescued after they have been profiled”.<br />

She said that the news had brought joy to some members of the Association of the Chibok Girls Parents.<br />

“Before the call from you, I was speaking with one of the key member 
of the association of the parents. He is going to proceed on a journey 
to Chibok tomorrow. He is excited at the news.<br />

“They are very interested in seeing that this comes to a reality and it will be a big achievement for Nigeria,” she said.<br />

The Bring Back Our Girls campaigners have held series of protests, 
pushing for more efforts from the government for the rescue of the girls
 that were abducted from their school’s dormitory in Chibok on April 14,
 2014 by members of the Boko Haram terrorists group.<br />

The military earlier rescued some 200 girls and 93 women from camps of the terrorists in Sambisa forest, a strong hold of the terrorists.<br />

According to the military spokesman, Major General Chris Olukolade, 
three camps of the terrorists were destroyed in Tuesday’s 
counter-terrorism operation.<br />
